- Description
- As we enter a new year, it is worthwhile to reflect on the Journal, its output and performance in 2011. Interest in the Journal and work conducted by the editorial and publications staff has increased substantially compared to previous years. This is reflected in the quality of papers we are now publishing and the substantial increase in submissions from our region. In 2011 we published 7 reviews, 36 original articles, 5 letters to the Editor and 5 case reports as well as 3 editorials. Of the 36 original articles, 1 was clearly in the basic science field, 7 were judged as translational science, 8 were clinical retrospective studies, 7 were prospective trials. In addition there were 13 papers related to practice issues with significant capacity to lead to changes in implementation of clinical research or otherwise lead to improved healthcare quality and value. These papers represent the later phase of the bidirectional translational research continuum. Practice issues included second medical opinion consultations in cancer care (accompanied by an editorial), and an evaluation of prophylactic zoledronic acid in Chinese men receiving androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer.
